Washow Lodge: ecotourism

As a community-based aboriginal ecotourism business, Washow Lodge carries forth the following mission in operations and development:

To promote the discovery and rediscovery of James Bay Cree culture through successful operations of a high quality, ecologically sustainable, financially profitable, and authentic Cree ecotourism operation.

Key objectives

• To promote and enhance local collective culture and traditional Cree knowledge and lifestyle by providing active learning experiences for community members and guests from around the world;
• To maintain an active presence at Hannah Bay in order to enhance the stewardship or caretaking of the lands and waters, and to ensure that the region is left intact for generations to come;
• To utilize the centre to assist underprivileged individuals in the community;
• To develop new economic opportunities for community members; and
• To further develop economic self-reliance and wealth for the community.
